Lake Denison: 5-9-2015

Arrived at the Lake at a little after 5 am. The lake was covered with fog and the sky was cloudy. It was light enough to load up and launch. Lake Denison is a small lake and was easy to navigate all the way around it multiple times during the 6 hours I was there. The depth averages about 2-6 feet around the shoreline. I paddled back to the Northeast corner where the feeder creek comes into the lake, pausing and casting occasionally on my way. Water temperature was 63 degrees. When I got back to the feeder creek, I cast a frog near some weeds sticking up out of the water. A fish whacked at it about 10 seconds after it hit the water. I twitched it a couple of times and something took it under. I set the hook and reeled in a small bass. As the day went on, Yamamoto double tail grub was the ticket. Little buck bass were all over the shallows all the way around the lake. Small pickerel too. There were three other boats on the water. All three of them were just trolling around the 10 ft water level. There was quite a bit of water surface action going on by schooling fish.
I caught three pickerel, one perch and 14 small bass. After the slow production days that I have experienced this season so far, it was fun just to catch a bunch of fish.
Lake Denison is a nice little lake. I know the solitude that I enjoyed today will be done when the campsites get fired up this summer. I'm glad I got to experience the lake like it was today.....
